Tata Medical Centre

Indian Institute of ScienceBuilt across 13 acres of land in the Rajarhat area of Kolkata, the Tata Medical Center is run by a professional management body that reports to the TMCT, Kolkata. Cannon Design, a renowned architectural firm from North America, has conceptualised the structure amidst carefully landscaped grounds.

The TMC is a philanthropic initiative aimed at the prevention and research of cancer, its early diagnosis and treatment, and the rehabilitation and palliation of affected patients. 50 per cent of its patients receive free or subsidised treatment; a special reservation for the underprivileged sections of society. It has been set up in collaboration with the renowned 68-year-old Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.

The 167-bed hospital is equipped with the best modern-day facilities and a well-trained professional staff. The Centre’s multi-disciplinary approach towards the diagnosis and treatment of cancer employs Disease Management Teams. That is, experts from different streams – viz. surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, pathology, radiology, psychiatry and medical social work– participate in decision-making for treatment protocols, using evidence-based medical strategies and appropriate documented clinical guidelines.
