Allied Trusts
The Allied Trusts are primarily smaller trusts and while some have specific mandates, the rest are quite general and broad-based in their approach to grant making. These Trusts are administered by Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.

While the Trusts have separate legal identities and separate Boards of Trustees, a uniform governance mechanism exists for overseeing the grant making activities of the Trusts (barring JRD and Thelma J Tata Trust which focuses exclusively on women and children). Each grant recommended by this structure is further approved by the Board of Trustees of the respective Trust. This, together with the shared Strategic Plan and shared programs and administrative team essentially implies that the group functions as a single entity.

The following Trusts focus on overall developmental issues:
» Jamsetji Tata Trust, set up in 1974
» Tata Education Trust, set up in 1990
» Tata Social Welfare Trust, set up in 1990
» RD Tata Trust, set up in 1990
Grants are made across the sectors of Natural Resource Management and Rural Livelihoods; Urban Poverty and Livelihoods; Education; Health; Civil Society, Governance and Human Rights; Media, Art and Culture and Relief. Grants contribute towards nation building and pioneering new ideas that have a far-reaching and beneficial impact on society.
JRD Tata Trust
This Trust was established in 1944. The institutional grants here too, focus on overall developmental issues with the same program mandate as Sir Dorabji Tata Trust. The JRD Tata Trust also gives a substantial number of individual medical and educational grants.
JRD AND THELMA J TATA TRUST
The JRD and Thelma J Tata Trust was established in 1991 by JRD Tata with the purpose of “promoting the welfare, education, health, rehabilitation and generally the uplift of the women of India, particularly of those who are disadvantaged or oppressed and of children under their care.” In an attempt to further sharpen its focus, the Trust is looking at up-scaling programs that empower women and address the issue of human rights of both women and children.
