In the Management of Natural Resources sector, the Trust is guided by its Strategy Paper, which lists the following four core areas while considering support:
»
Strengthening the capacity of knowledge institutions to build applied knowledge.
» Expanding the corpus of development organizations.
» Supporting innovative ideas to create new change propositions.
»
Filling the knowledge gap on forging sustainable peoples organizations.

In keeping with this perspective, the Trust has adopted a ‘livelihoods approach’ with most MNR projects working within the rural livelihood scenario. Therefore, in considering projects for grant making the Trust supports programs that yield more in terms of income, environment and employment.

While in the past, grants have largely benefited the western and southern states of the country, in the coming year the thrust of the work will be in supporting programs in priority states comprising the ‘poorest regions’ belt of central and eastern India.
