The Commonwealth has a deficit of both democracy and development. An Open Government is the answer, and entrenching people’s right to access information is the most practical way of achieving this. CHRI’s report ‘Open Sesame: Looking for the Right to Information in the Commonwealth’, advocates the immediate adoption and fulsome implementation, by every member state, of liberal access to information laws developed by people and governments in close cooperation.

The Report also urges the institutions of the Official Commonwealth to set an example and put in place progressive disclosure and information sharing policies. Without this, the quest for robust democracy and rapid development will never be realised.
